The Durability And Easy Care Of Cotton Drill
Cotton Drill has to be one of the easiest fabrics to look after. That is why so many of our clothes, especially casual clothes are made from Cotton Drill fabric. The fabric is constructed using a twill weave which makes it very durable. It can be washed many times, becomes softer, and even improves with age. It has a characteristic diagonal weave, resulting in an interesting finish. Twill weave fabrics wear well, have high strength, and have good resistance to wrinkling. It is a medium or heavy weight fabric.
Known for its good qualities during the 1840s the British Empire troops, during the occupation of India, wore white cotton drill uniforms which were dyed a tan colour, closely matching the colour of their dusty surroundings. It provided effective camouflage. The fabric soon became a popular material for other military uniforms.
You can either hand or machine wash Cotton Drill garments in warm water with a gentle detergent at 30 degrees. Then hang to air dry or partially tumble dry. Cotton Drill needs minimum pressing with regular heat.
At Order Materia all our Cotton Drill fabrics have been washed several times to eliminate shrinkage and checked that the dyes are fast before our garments are manufactured.
