Why we use French Seams on Our Handmade Garments at Order Materia

At Order Materia we are passionate about our choice of fabrics, our manufacturing process and the finish of our garments. Each garment that we design is manufactured to a high standard. The choice of fabrics, their construction, and manufacture are extremely important to us. We use a variety of manufacturing techniques that are relevant to each garment and type of fabric.

Whenever possible we use French seams, usually on lightweight or delicate fabrics like silk, organza, chiffon, cotton, cotton lawn etc. and medium weight fabrics like cotton, linen, wool etc. This type of seam is sewn twice, encasing the raw edge within the seam and creating a very neat finish. The result is that the inside of the garment is as professionally finished as the outside. This type of seam is also an added value to the longevity of the garment and its washing and pressing.

So the next time you receive your Order Materia purchase, take a good look at the inside and see what we mean.
