Awaken - From inception, through refinement, to sculpting and casting.

Like all our projects, this piece was born and evolved through a process of sketching and most importantly our conversation, bouncing ideas and forms between each other, as we have been doing all our life. This continual cycle is the process that drives the refinement of our work.

Being a piece that is worn, how it interacts with the hand is crucial. At this point Harrison’s skills took the lead role, his knowledge and passion of materials and creating 3 dimensional forms enables the sketches to be translated into a physical object.

At this stage we began the of casting of a bronze prototype.

The extensive process of turning wax into metal begins with making a master mould from which all the following pieces will begin. The resulting wax rings are then sprued, placed in a flask and surrounded by high temperature plaster. The wax is then burnt out in the kiln and molten metal poured into the cavity.

If you would like to see more of this process in greater detail, then have a look at Harrison’s Instagram - www.instagram.com/harrisonswaby

This final prototype was then sent for casting in high quality Britannia Silver. Once we receive the raw castings we then hand finish each ring, refining every surface, unifying the form and flow.
